How to Stay Healthy During a Pandemic

The pandemic called covid-19 and all the variants associated with it have had a major effect in the world. People from all walks of life are facing challenges that can be very overwhelming and stressful, especially for those in rural areas and developing countries. When covid hits a home, it creates fear, targets your freedom and finances. These are challenges that cause strong emotions in people with children and elderly family members. Social distancing does help to prevent the virus, but as we all know social distancing and wearing masks are worldwide mandates to reduce the spread of COVID-19. But in reality, they can make us feel isolated, lonely and also increase stress and anxiety.

I remembered back in May of 2020 when I got sick with the virus, it was the darkest and fearful time of my life. I was in the ICU wall of the hospital for a month and three days with no family members or close friends around. The only friends I had were the hospital staff. But I overcame by prayers and taking doctors’ orders. Anyway, that will be another story to tell in my next article. When we learn to cope with all these emotional feelings healthily, we will be able to overcome the disease and help the people we care about, in our society.

Covid 19 might never go away, or it might just become just another type of flu. Hence taking precautions like practicing daily healthy living for your whole family, will keep you away from doctors’ offices and save you thousands of dollars. Healthy living should be one of the most important plans in everyone’s lives.

     Below are some tips on how to cope with the stress and anxiety that come from the pandemic.

(1)Listen to your favorite music…music can reduce anxiety, blood pressure, and pain as well as improve sleep quality, mood, mental alertness, and memory.

(2)Get plenty of sleep…Sleep can reduce stress and improve your mood.

(3)Regular exercise…Regular physical activity can improve your muscle strength and boost your endurance.

(4)Socialize with friends and family…Socialization can help improve our mental and emotional health. (Do not forget the Covid-19 precaution while socializing.)

(5) Eat well balance meal…This will help to support your physical and mental well-being.

(6) Avoid excessive alcoholic drinks and smoking… This will only make matters worst for you.

(5) Prayers and meditation…If you are religious like me, call your religious leader for prayers.

Remember we are all in this together. Give helping hands to others when you can.
